Position Overview
UNECA is seeking a qualified Economic Affairs Officer to join the Macroeconomics, Finance, and Governance Division (MFGD) in Addis Ababa. This role involves supporting African member states in accelerating economic transformation through effective development planning, improved macroeconomic management, and enhanced economic governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop socio-economic databases and qualitative information in priority areas aligned with the South African G20 Presidency’s high-level deliverables.
- Interpret and apply econometric models to analyze trends, patterns, and the effects of alternative policies.
- Draft inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national, or sector aspects of economic development related to G20 work.
- Assist in organizing and servicing technical and consultative expert group meetings for advocacy and engagement.
- Prepare speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior UNECA officials related to the G20.
UNECA Recruitment Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, or related areas.
- Proficiency in developing socio-economic databases and conducting econometric analyses.
- Strong analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality technical papers and reports.
- Experience in organizing international meetings and engaging with intergovernmental processes is desirable.
